The Right Tux for you
If there has to be a rule for tuxedos, then it is that there is no substitute for a tuxedo. Wearing a prom tuxedo that fits right will make you feel more comfortable and will make you look great. Apart from that, you can also go for the style that you suits your body type. Usually, a double-breasted jacket looks best on someone who is slender and tall to medium height and build. The shoulders then can be padded more than normal and the waist taken in to a comfortable extent to make the body seem more muscular. Trousers also tend to look best when the legs are slightly fuller than normal. If you are tall and very muscular, then the shawl-collar tux is your best bet. Remember that your shirt cuffs should extend about an inch beyond the jacket sleeve. Take care to choose a tie that is just the right size for your face because if you have a wide face or thick neck a small tie can only make you look like you're being choked
The average price for tuxedos is not easy to determine because they are priced by style. Classic, or more conservative prom tuxedos range between $65.00-$95.00, depending on where you rent.
Designer labels are more exotic tuxes and therefore will cost more in the range of $115 and up to $200.
Renting the tux, however, means a bit more than just renting the suit. You will also need formal shoes, tuxedo shirt, and jewelry (cufflinks & studs). This is usually part of the tux rental package. If this is your first time renting a tux, then just let an attendant at a local shop show whatever is appropriate. If you don't know how to put on the links and studs, for example, ask them to show you how in the store.
Finally, you will need a tie and cummerbund, or a full back vest. Depending on the tux style you have rented, the tie may be a bow tie, or it may be long. If you are not wearing a cummerbund, then you must wear a vest. Sometimes, you can order either the cummerbund or the vest in colors that match your date's dress. It is slightly more expensive than the standard cummerbund or vest but the final effect is well worth it.
Don't Forget The Corsage
What is this corsage thing, anyway? Well, it's between $20 and $30. It's an important part of the prom tradition in that you give your date her corsage when you first arrive to pick her up. Giving a corsage has a ritual dimension: it shows that you consider that person special and that you are singling them out to enter into a special relationship with you, even if this relationship is for only one evening.
